NEP (SNAP-Ed and EFNEP) programs help limited resource families increase access to affordable nutritious food, stretch food dollars, develop skills and improve food safety practices. In Lawrence County, the poverty rate is 25.9%; adult obesity rate is 41% and adults overweight is 73%;and lack of physical activity is 29%. Access to nutritious affordable food is a problem for most families especially fresh fruits and vegetables; hence, only 4% of county residents consume the recommended 5 or more fruits and vegetables per day.
