Situation:
Building the capacity of volunteer leaders is critical for the sustainability of communities that support and strengthen families and the Clark County Community. The Clark County Extension Service is committed to engaging, educating and empowering local citizens to investigate issues, vocalize viewpoints, make responsible decisions, take ownership of solutions and contribute to a work-ready Clark County.
Long-Term Outcomes:
-Community problems are solved through active engaged local leaders
-Increased individual skills related to workforce readiness
-Clark County’s community health and economy are strengthened through strong local organizational leadership

Intermediate Outcomes:
-Practice personal leadership skills in clubs, schools and community outreach
-Improved skills in communication, problem solving, or group process in addressing organizational issues and needs
-Apply skills to assess needs, develop programs and implement solutions for community problems
-Development of soft skills related to employment
Initial Outcomes:
-Collaborate with local agencies related to workforce readiness
-Implement individual leadership practices: identifying community needs, parlimentary procedures, interpersonal communication, teamwork

Teen Leader on the Rise

Clark County 4-H has a strong teen leadership club.   Many of its members are highly involved in the service projects and fundraising opportunities that it offers while still being active in other 4-H clubs.  One of the struggles, however, with these involved, leader oriented youth is the self motivation needed to step into officer roles on the county level and leadership opportunities on higher levels.  One particular individual is a young man who has the dedication to do what it

Overall, youth in Clark County report that speaking in front of a group of their peers is intimidating. Teachers in Clark County Schools share that fostering the development of public speaking gives youth the confidence needed to pursue future endeavors. As a community, Clark County strives to focus on work and career readiness. The Clark County 4-H Communication Contest had a participation of 826 participants in 2018. The Clark County 4-H Junior and Teen Leadership clubs are heavily focused on Leadership and Community Service.  In May of 2017, the final Jr. and Teen Leadership club meetings took place for the program year.  Both clubs were asked to provide insight on the direction that they would like to continue in the 2017-18 program year.  Both clubs vocalized wanting to do more community service as their number one priority. Emily Comer, Clark County 4-H: The Dennis Goodman Grant allowed Emily Comer from District 4 to work with 4-H Agents in her district to plan and implement the District 4-H Middle School Leadership Academy.
