Situation:
Jackson County has a high rate of health related problems. According to the 2015 County Health Rankings, Jackson County is in overall poor health as they are rated 107 out of 120 counties. With programs for limited income families, SNAP-Ed recipients, homemakers, youth and the general public, Cooperative Extension Service will continue to inform and educate concerning proper nutrition, physical fitness, weight management,safety and disease prevention.

Long-Term Outcomes:
Parents, youth, homemakers and community members will adopt safe procedures, practice good nutrition, adapt to a physical fitness lifestyle which includes weight management and disease prevention.
Intermediate Outcomes:
Parents, youth, homemakers and community members will change at least one unhealthy practice, learn at least one safe practice and try at least one new healthy nutritional food.
Initial Outcomes:
Parents, youth, homemakers and community members will become aware of unsafe practices and unhealthy behavior and seek knowledge in order to change to safe practices and healthy behavior.

Success Stories

4-H Healthy Holiday Cookie Exchange

Major Program: Family and Consumer Sciences 4-H Core Curriculum

This Fall the Jackson County 4-H offered a 4-H Healthy Cookie Exchange during the month of December.  4-H Age youth and a parent/adult were invited to participate.  This program was held on Mondays for three weeks in the evenings from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Extension Office.  The criteria for this program was for each person to bring a dozen healthy cookies already baked to exchange along with the recipe to give out.  While they were at the Extension Office each child/adult
