Situation:

Due to Spencer County being known as one of the fastest growing counties in Kentucky, we, Extension Council and agents, realize the need to develop community leadership.

Long-Term Outcomes:

Increase the number of local residents participating in county wide, regional programs, and activities.

Intermediate Outcomes:

Spencer County residents will actively participate in programs through the Extension Service and other community groups.

Initial Outcomes:

Residents will identify local areas of interest that they can become involved in. Extension leadership will provide a variety of training that residents will use to support county activities and programs that seek their interest.

Evaluation:

Outcome: Volunteer Development

Indicator: Number of Volunteer Lead Classes/Programs/Clubs.

Method: Observation/Surveys.

Timeline: July–June


Outcome: Master Clothing Volunteer will assist with various groups.

Indicator: Number of hours of service.

Method: Master Clothing Volunteer observation form and Pre/post surveys.

Outcome: Council Development

Indicator: Development of council committees.

Method: Trainings for officers and members of councils.

Project or Activity: SOS Classes (AL, BR, MT)

Content or Curriculum: Facilitators develop their own materials to teach the residents of Spencer County in individual classes.

Inputs: Extension Council, Extension District Board, University of Kentucky Specialists, Family Resource Youth Service Center, Multipurpose Community Action, Spencer County School System, Master Clothing Volunteer, Local Producers, Homemaker’s, 4-H Members, Leaders, Volunteers, Spencer County Chamber of Commerce.

Date: December – May.


Project or Activity: Teen Conference, State 4-H Boards, 4-H Camp, Issues Conference, District 3 Teen Retreat, Teen Summit, Kentucky Volunteer Forum. (MT)

Content or Curriculum: Leadership Development for Middle School and High School students, as well as 4-H Volunteers.

Inputs: Extension District Board, University of Kentucky Specialists, Family Resource Youth Service Center, Spencer County School System, Homemaker’s, 4-H Members, Leaders, Volunteers.

Project or Activity: Summer Intern (AL, BR, MT)

Content or Curriculum: Extension Experience.

2019 4-H Teen Summit

Major Program: Leadership 4-H Core Curriculum

According to research, middle school is a time where young people find their place in this world, they are exploring where their strengths and interests align (Fagell. P.L., 2019). Therefore, it is impreative to provide positive experiences where young people may explore the world in a safe environment. Due to the decline in enrollment numbers throughout the middle school years in 4-H programming, Kentucky 4-H hosts the Kentucky 4-H Summit Leadership Conference for middle schoolers (grades 6-8)

It's Your Reality

Major Program: Family and Consumer Sciences 4-H Core Curriculum

Today’s youth are unfamiliar to the financial responsibility that their future holds so the goal of the Spencer County Extension Office was to enlighten youth through the 4-H Reality Store, an event that provided participants the opportunity to partake in the journey through adult life. In March of 2019 approximately 242 Spencer County Middle School 8th grade students were given the opportunity to understand the importance of decision making and financial responsibility.Spencer County Coop
