Volunteers are important in building engaged and empowered communities. KEHA - The Kentucky Extension Homemakers Association mission is to improve the quality of life for families and communities through education, leadership development and volunteer service. With membership totaling more than 13,000 statewide, KEHA members are engaged leaders and active volunteers.
From the Kentucky Extension Community Assessment Carroll County Report, the top three priorities issues in the area of youth and families for our county were more youth life skills training and more support for prevention of school violence and bullying, and more youth life skills training in decision making and money management.
- KEHA members serve as active Extension and community volunteers engaged in addressing community needs
- 4-H teens and adults will serve as volunteers and leaders in their communities, community organizations.
- 4-H youth will demonstrate the understanding of diversity, inclusivity and multiculturalism in their daily life.
- 4-H youth will identify and address critical issues that impact the community.
- 4-H youth will be productive, contributing adults in the future.
- 4-H youth will use leadership and communications skills needed to be successful in the workplace on a daily basis
- 4-H youth utilize the skills gained through education and involvement in Extension programs to serve as leaders in 4-H and other organizations.
- 4-H youth share the elements of the visual arts with their community.
- 4-H youth become more comfortable sharing their thoughts with others.
- 4-H youth develop into competent, capable, contributing adults as a result of their participation in 4-H Communications & Expressive Arts Programs.
- KEHA leaders will practice personal leadership skills through leadership roles at the club, county, area and/or state level.
- The number of KEHA volunteer service hours reported annually for KEHA, Extension and Community activities will increase.
- 4-H youth will demonstrate leadership, teamwork and communication skills in their day to day lives.
- 4-H youth will utilize leadership skills learned during their time in 4-H in clubs, activities and other venues with 4-H and other community organizations.
- Senior 4-H members will become leaders or co-leaders of a 4-H project club, day camp or other project based group of younger 4-H members.
- 4-H youth will indicate increased awareness of diversity issues in their community and personal lives.
- 4-H youth will engage in community based service projects selected to address identified needs.
- 4-H youth construct a speech that has a clear introduction, body and closing.
- 4-H youth present before their family, a group of their peers (such as at a 4-H club meeting), at school or county qualifying event.
- 4-H youth demonstrate an increased level of confidence when presenting in front of groups.
- 4-H youth use their communication skills to assume a leadership role in 4-H or other organizations.
- 4-H youth apply elements of music, dance, drama and visual arts in creating and performing.
- KEHA members will gain organizational knowledge through annual officer and chairman training.
- KEHA members will increase knowledge and skills in personal leadership through club lessons and special interest workshops.
- Youth will be taught communication, leadership and procedural skills that will allow them to run a meeting.
- Youth will brainstorm and be taught how to set appropriate and attainable goals.
- Youth will learn about diversity and will demonstrate inclusivity.
- Youth research a presentation topic prior to developing a speech or demonstration.
- Youth write an outline, including an introduction, body, and conclusion for their speech or demonstration.
- Youth create a formal presentation, speech or outline using the written outline
- Youth be prepared to present before their family, a group of their peers (such as at a 4-H club meeting) and a school or county qualifying event.
