Situation:

Unsolved worldwide social problems need to be addressed by Kentucky youth and adults.

In the US, shortage of scientists & people understanding natural resource stewardship

Under-representation of women and minorities in NR careers

Need a diverse pool of trained scientists to frame and solve problems & educate others.

General population in the US (& worldwide) lacks basic understanding of environmental resources and climate change

Increase in careers featuring Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics

Kentucky is still in the bottom 25% in health well-being

Long-Term Outcomes:

Increased awareness of NR among youth

Improved NR skills (scientific methods) and knowledge (content areas) among youth

Increased awareness of social problems that could be addressed in NR stewardship

Increased life skills (self-efficacy) among youth in NR awareness

Increased number of youth selecting science related fields (Natural Resources along with Family Consumer Sciences and STEM related fields

Intermediate Outcomes:

Increased awareness of NR among youth

Improved NR skills (scientific methods) and knowledge (content areas) among youth

Increased awareness of social problems that could be addressed in NR stewardship

Increased life skills (self-efficacy) among youth in NR awareness
