Research shows that people who stay intellectually engaged are more likely to maintain their mental acuity. Traditionally, quilting was done to provide warm blankets for families, but in the last few decades we have learned that quilting has much more to offer.

Quilters’ Day Out 2023Magoffin County Extension’s two quilt guilds were hosts for the area’s Quilters’ Day Out this year. A group of twenty-two ladies have worked for two years in preparation for hosting this event, as volunteers. Sewing has been around for hundreds of years, but has often been said a thing of the past in today’s time. Many people go and buy their clothes, blankets, and other accessories. After the pandemic more calls and requests are being made for these classes. Knowing this the Henderson County FCS Agent worked with homemakers to put together a beginner quilting class and sewing class. The classes were set up with 8 participants in the morning class and 6 at night. A
