The Purchase Area Master Clothing Volunteers taught a series of Upcycling sewing classes this summer in Graves county and Calloway county. The Junior 4-H Upcycling class in Graves County was a two day event were young 4-Her's ages 9 to 14 created three projects from denim. There were twelve youth, ten girls and two boys, that participated. This was a first time for the majority using a sewing machine. Many studies have shown that sewing is not only a productive life skill and hobby, but that it can be a stress reliever and can increase a person’s feeling of self-worth. Yearly, Quicksand Area Master Clothing Volunteers host workshops in two different locations. Participants at Come Sew with us, attend three different workshops of their choice where they learn a new skill then make the item for that workshop.
