Educational Needs in the Time of a Crisis

With the untimely death on July 4, 2021, of Knox County's largest grain and hay producer, the extension educational obligations increased on his farm immediately. The Knox County Agriculture Agent began the process of educating farm crew on identifying weeds to be sprayed in soybeans, recommending herbicides to be used and showing how to drive and operate a Spray Coupe in order to spray the soybeans.  Following soybeans spraying the crew was educated on when hay was the correct moisture

Tornado Relief

IN TAYLOR COUNTY, THE DECEMBER 11, 2021 AND JANUARY 1, 2022 TORNADOS AFFECTED APPROXIMATELY 110 HOMES AND LOSS OF ONE LIFE AS IT SWEPT ACROSS THE STATE.  SOME HOMES WERE COMPLETELY GONE, BARNS DESTROYED OR DAMAGED AND LIVESTOCK RUNNING LOOSE AS FENCES WERE TAKEN BY THE TORNADOS. AFTER SEVERAL CALLS FROM LEADERS WITHIN THE COUNTY AND A PROMISE OF FRONT MONEY TO PURCHASE EMERGENCY FENCING SUPPLIES AND A REQUEST TO HELP FROM FARM ORGANIZATIONS ACROSS THE STATE, THE TAYLOR COUNTY EXTENSION
