The Red River Gorge is one of the most unique and inspiring parts of Kentucky.  Hiking and recreation in the area attracts an average of 200,000 visitors per year and an average of $2 million is generated to the Powell County economy.  Continuing to grow this industry is an essential part of the economic health of Powell County.  One potential barrier to increasing tourism in the county, is the lack of children's activities.  The Powell County Cooperative Extension Office

Growing Agritourism in Lawrence County

For the past 11 years, the last weekend in September is when everyone gets out in the country, shops local, visits local farms, businesses, churches and spends the weekend enjoying the annual Heritage Harvest Tour.
