Whitley County is part of the Cumberland River Area Development District (CRADD) and is associated with the Daniel Boone Tourism Region which supports selective project planning. The US Forest Service’s Daniel Boone National Forest covers the western half of Whitley County, and Williamsburg, the county seat, is located near other recreational resources such as the National Park Service’s Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area and the Kentucky State Parks’ Cumberland

Community Design 101 Webinars

The Department of Landscape Architecture published 12 Extension publications between 2015 and 2017 that covered public space planning and design topics of interest to communities in Kentucky, including trails, wayfinding, walkability and connectivity, streetscape, and placemaking. Between Fall 2018 and Spring 2019, 5 webinars were offered to Extension Agents through the In-Service Training Catalog for professional development. Arts Extension

Arts Extension Agents in three Kentucky communities coordinate local festivals, night markets, concerts and public performances to provide communities with a means to attract outside tourism dollars, provide local citizens access to arts experiences that reflect their community narratives, and create venues for local artists to generate revenue.
